The reason for this is that it is generally cheaper to sell a product from a website than it is to have a store. That being said a lot of companies that have stores are selling online as well because so many people find it to be more convenient. While you can buy almost anything online there are some products that are easier to sell that way, mostly it is the ones that are easy to ship.

Internet marketing can also be used to get people to come to your store or office to buy from you there. This is fairly common with services, you may find your dentist online but you will still have to go to his office for treatment. This is becoming an important aspect of internet marketing because the first thought of most people when they need something is to go online. Even if it is clearly something that they can't buy online they will still research the product online. This is why you need to have a web presence regardless of what you are selling.

In some cases you will find that internet marketing can be useful even if you are not selling something from your site. In these cases you will find that companies use the internet to build their brand. They are not selling anything directly online and they may not even be selling it offline, often they don't even sell consumer products. The internet can be used as a way to build up your companies image so that it is portrayed in the way that you want it to be. This is as much a part of marketing as making sales.

While everybody knows that internet marketing is important and can greatly increase your sales it can be a challenge. There is a lot of competition online so you are going to really have to know what you are doing, there is a lot more to it than just building a website. It is important that you understand what is involved in internet marketing so that you will be able to take full advantage of it. There is little value to being online if you are not going to use it to its full potential.
